Trinity Western University goaltender Silas Matthys is the ANYTHING BRANDED Player of the Week for the week ending January 14th.
The 25-year-old from Switzerland kicked off the weekend with a 44 save effort as the Spartans edged Selkirk College 4-3 on Friday.
Saturday saw another playoff-type atmosphere as the top two teams in the BCIHL played the back half of a double-header in the West Kootenays. Matthys finished with 33 saves in TWU's 3-2 victory over the Saints, extending the Spartans winning streak to nine games.
Matthys posted a .939 save percentage in the two games vs. Selkirk College this past weekend along with a 2.44 goals-against-average. He leads the league in all goaltending categories this season - wins, goals-against-average and save percentage. Matthys, who is the BCIHL's all-time goaltending wins leader is also riding a personal eight-game winning streak, allowing just 19 goals over that span.
Runners up for this week's ANYTHING BRANDED POW award include Simon Fraser University forward Brendan Lamont, Vancouver Island University forward Garrett Dunlop, Selkirk College forward Grant Iles, and University of Victoria forward Liam Shaw.
