Simon Fraser University built a three-goal lead through 40 minutes and held off a late University of Victoria comeback bid to pick up a 4-1 road victory at the Ian Stewart Complex on Friday night.
The Vikes opened the scoring just 3:15 into the game when Carter Huber scored his third of the season, but Cole Plotnikoff evened the score late in the period.
SFU took control of the game in the second period, as Mitch Ledyard scored power-play and shorthanded goals minutes apart before Jaret Babych extended the lead to three.
Kyle Bird brought Victoria within a pair on a third period power-play and Otis Goldman pulled the hosts within one with 9:41 remaining in regulation, but the Vikes couldn't find the equalizer against Clan starting netminder Ryan Sandrin.
SFU fired 60 shots as Vikes goaltender Zack Wear, while Sandrin made 18 saves in the win.
The Clan will complete their two-game island road swing Saturday when they face Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo. Game time is 7:15 PM.
