BCIHL Names Full All-Star Roster for Showcase Matchup Against UBC, TWU

The BCIHL has announced its final roster for the BCIHL All-Stars vs University of British Columbia and Trinity Western University Challenge Series taking place on January 3rd and 4th in Nanaimo. 

University of Victoria Vikes defenceman Dan Gatenby will captain the All Stars squad. Gatenby, a 5th year senior and Vikes captain, brings a wealth of experience including seasons with University of Lethbridge (USports), Tri-City Americans and Kamloops Blazers (WHL). Coletyn Boyarski (Okanagan Lakers), Nick Wagner (Simon Fraser University), and Max Struss (Vancouver Island University) will serve as alternate captains. The goaltenders selected are UVIC's Hunter Tarves and Logan Lake's Matthew Enns. Tarves, a former Selkirk Steeler (MJHL) and Surrey Eagle (BCHL), is in his second season with the Vikes and holds a 4-0-0-1 record with a 2.76 GAA and 0.913 SV%. Enns is in his third season with Logan Lake and was nominated the 2022/23 BCIHL Goaltender of the Year. The All-Stars will be coached by a committee of BCIHL coaches.

The 2025 showcase marks the first time a BCIHL All-Star team has faced off against USports competition, it last took the ice against the Kazakhstan U20 National Team ahead of the 2019 IIHF World Juniors. 

UBC currently ranks 2nd in USports Canada West with a record of 12-5-0-1, while TWU ranks 9th at 2-15-0-1. The games mark the first visit to Nanaimo for the Thunderbirds, while the Spartans earned a pair of island pre-season wins against UVIC and VIU in September. 

Tickets will be available at the door on a first-come first-serve basis, fans are encouraged to arrive early as the games are expected to sell out.
